Most Asians dream of a life in Western Europe. Reality is often far from imagination and their new home country looks mostly identical with the one just left.

Vietnamese people are one of the big minorities in Berlin, which resulted from the strong political and economical relationship between the former German Democratic Republic and Vietnam. Today Vietnamese culture is very present in Berlin and finds it's peak in one of the biggest Vietnamese marketplaces in Europe, the Dong Xuan Centre.

Views from buildings in East Berlin where Vietnamese people live. Pictures are taken from the floor on which the family lives, whose door bell nameplate is depicted.

This series evolved as a part of a work shop with Sebastian Bissinger from BANK Associates at the UdK Berlin.
